Quick take: The Sharp LC-D40U series consists of four flat-panel LCD TVs: the 26-inch LC-26D40U, the 32-inch LC-32D40U, the 37-inch LC-37D40U and the 45-inch LC-45D40U. All four sets have a native resolution of 1,366x768, which means they should be able to display every detail of 720p content. In terms of image quality, we have completed a full review of the LC-37D40U and were mostly pleased with it (see the full review for more info). While we have not reviewed the LC-26D40U, the LC-32D40U or the LC-45D40U, we believe the performance of the LC-37D40U is a good indicator of their image quality.
In terms of features, all of these sets feature a built-in HDTV tuner which means you won't need an external set-top box to pull in over-the-air HDTV signals. The sets also lack a CableCard slot, and though that means you're out of luck if you want to ditch your cable box, we don't consider it a serious omission. In terms of connectivity, all the sets are highlighted by two HDMI inputs and two component-video inputs. The two larger sets have three A/V inputs, one of which has S-Video; the two smaller sets have two A/V inputs, both with S-Video. The Sharp LC-26D40U, the Sharp LC-32D40U, the Sharp LC-37D40U, and the Sharp LC-45D40U are all currently available with list prices of $1,100, $1,600, $2,300 and $3,800, respectively.
